Leaked images suggest Google’s Pixel 6 Pro will have 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide and 48MP 4x tele camera modules: Digital Photography Review

Google hasn’t announced the details of its forthcoming Pixel 6 smartphone lineup yet, but recent leaks have revealed nearly everything there is to know about Google’s next-generation mobile devices, including the camera array we can expect to see on both the larger and smaller models.

We’re 12 days out from the Pixel Fall Launch event, but it seems little remains under wraps due to a number of leaks including images, renderings and even technical readouts of pre-production units. Evan Blass, who goes by Evleaks in the mobile community, has shared a cache of what appear to be official images from Google that reveal specifications hinted at in previous leaks.

Of these images, one confirms the Pixel 6 Pro will have a triple-camera module that consists of one 50MP wide camera module, one 12MP ultrawide camera module and one 48MP telephoto camera module. Based on previous rumors and technical readouts, it’s expected the main 50MP camera will be powered by Samsung’s 1/1.31” GN1 sensor, which features dual-pixel autofocus (AF), 4-in-1 pixel binning and 1.2µm pixels. The 12MP ultrawide is expected to to be powered by Sony’s IMX386 sensor and the 4x telephoto module, which is expected to be limited to the larger Pixel 6 Pro model, is expected to use Sony’s IMX586 image sensor.

Below is a hands-on video of a pre-production Pixel 6 Pro unit, published by Brandon Lee on their This is Tech Today YouTube channel.

Other camera-related specifications revealed in leaks include 4K video recording, 1080p30 recording on the front-facing camera and an updated image processing pipeline that is alleged to improve skin tone rendering.Cameras aside, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are expected to come loaded with Android 12, which is the first to feature Google’s Material You design language and an updated privacy dashboard for keeping tabs on what information apps and services are requesting and using.

Below is a video overview of what to expect in Android 12:

The Pixel 6 Pro is rumored to come with a 6.67” 120Hz curved AMOLED display while the Pixel 6 will feature a 6.4” 90Hz flat display. Both are expected to come with in-screen fingerprint sensors, wireless charging, stereo speakers and a sole USB-C port for fast charging and transferring data.

As for configurations, rumors suggest the Pixel 6 will come with 8GB of RAM with 128GB and 256GB storage options while the Pixel 6 Pro will get 12GB of RAM and come with 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options. Leaked pricing information suggests the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will retail for €649 and €899, respectively, in Europe.

While the sheer number of leaks suggest most of this information is accurate, we won’t know for sure until Google’s Pixel Fall Launch event on October 19, which will be livestreamed on YouTube.
